Nick Ciletti spent some time with those involved with St. Vincent de Paul's Companion Animal Program, which helps care for the pets of people in need:

"Being a pet owner myself, I know how much they become part of your family, and the thought of having to surrender an animal or not being able to afford proper care is heartbreaking to even think about. Through CAP, St. Vincent de Paul is throwing a lifeline to so many of these people - and pets - in need and helping them stay together. Sometimes, they're the only support system for each other. They helped about 20 pet owners that day, but I know the impact of the program goes beyond the four walls of the Washington Street shelter. I know it's helping these people realize there is hope and that this community cares."
