PHOENIX — A woman has been taken to a hospital after a shooting involving Phoenix police officers near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on Thursday.

According to police, the woman had a warrant in connection with a homicide investigation. When officers made contact with her, they pinned her car in.

Police officers issued commands to the woman and a man inside the vehicle. While the passenger, the man, complied with commands and exited the car, the woman remained inside.

After several commands and the use of less-than-lethal rounds, "she did produce a handgun and pointed it at our officers, and that is when the officer involved shooting began," a Phoenix spokesperson said.

Officers later removed the woman from the vehicle, rendered her aid, and transported her to a hospital in stable condition.

She has since been identified as 39-year-old Valarie Marie Corona and was later booked into jail.

No officers were injured, according to police.

Aerial footage showed a large area blocked off in a neighborhood.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating, officials said.
