BUCKEYE, AZ — One person has died after a Tesla caught fire Tuesday evening in Buckeye.

Just after 5 p.m., Buckeye Fire was called to a single-car crash with fire in the Tartesso neighborhood, near Sun Valley Parkway and Thomas Road.

Because it involved an electric vehicle, HAZMAT crews were needed to assist with the fire.

Buckeye Fire officials confirmed the driver died in the vehicle and was the only person inside.

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Rekeba Walls.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
