PHOENIX — This week, the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board approved the renaming of Cesar Chavez Park and Community Center to Aguila Park and Community center after allegations surfaced against the late labor activist.

The department began a formal review process in March and received more than 1,800 community survey responses, with Aguila Park and Laveen Park taking the number one and two spots.
The city said they will soon update signage.

"We are grateful for the community's engagement throughout this process," Parks Department Director Martin Whitfield said. "Our parks and facilities belong to the people we serve, and community input is essential in ensuring they continue to reflect the identity and values of Phoenix residents."
