PHOENIX — A man has died after a hit-and-run near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix on Friday morning.
Phoenix police say they were called to the area around 5:45 a.m. and found a person suffering from critical injuries.
Crewmembers from the Phoenix Fire Department confirmed that the person, 32-year-old Miguel Alteres, died from his injuries.
Investigators say Alteres was attempting to cross mid-block at 43rd Avenue just north of McDowell Road when he was struck.
Witnesses tell police an SUV resembling a gray Jeep Cherokee struck Alteres. A woman was seen getting out of the Jeep for a short time, then got back into the driver's seat and drove away.
The Cherokee was later identified as a Nissan Xterra.
On Saturday, officials announced 24-year-old Michelle Guzman-Garcia was located and arrested.
According to court documents, Guzman-Garcia told police she was scared, so she left the scene to go to work. Documents also state she does not and has never had a driver's license in Arizona or anywhere in the U.S.
She was booked into jail and is facing charges for leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
