August restaurant closures: 7 eateries that closed around the Valley

Each month we take a look at the restaurants that opened and, sadly, the ones that close for one reason or another.

Macayo's Scottsdale - The Mexican restaurant chain closed its only location in Scottsdale to focus on Woody's Macayo's, a smaller, redesigned version of the eatery under construction in central Phoenix. The closure also means the chain's test kitchen will move as well. Read more.

Riazzi's Italian Garden - The Tempe Italian eatery quietly closed its doors off Mill Avenue in August. Erick Geryol, the owner of Boulders on Southern and Boulders on Broadway, is in the process of purchasing the building to open Quarterie, an Italian concept.

Crunch 50 - The family-owned community cafe closed its doors in August, according to a Facebook post. It was essentially a cereal cafe with nearly 50 kinds of cereal to choose from, but also had waffles, coffee and ice cream. 

Modern Grove - The eatery closed its Phoenix restaurant in August to focus solely on its two remaining locations at Odysea in the Desert, an entertainment complex in Scottsdale, and Dolphinaris, a dolphin attraction in the same complex.

Mining Camp Restaurant - The Western-themed restaurant and steakhouse in Apache Junction caught fire and burned to the ground in August. The owners have said they plan to rebuild and open. Read more.

Press Coffee - The Valley coffee concept closed its location at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It was replaced by The Refuge Cafe. Read more

Crave - The owners behind Crave at Westgate Entertainment District closed the waffle concept and plan to reopen as a tea house serving Boba tea and small desserts. Read more.
