PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead after a crash involving a Valley Metro bus in the West Valley on Thursday morning, officials say.
The crash occurred near 59th Avenue and Van Buren Street, near the Loop 202 South Mountain on-ramp, just before 5 a.m.
Phoenix police say a Valley Metro bus making a turn struck a woman, killing her. The victim has not yet been identified.
A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was walking eastbound in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the bus.
The driver of the bus remained at the scene and was evaluated and showed no signs of impairment, police say.
The investigation remains ongoing. At this time, it's unclear if charges will be filed.
