PHOENIX — A 53-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle in north Phoenix late Saturday night.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. near 28th Avenue and Peoria Avenue.
Phoenix police said the man had been arguing with a woman before the crash. Witnesses were chasing him when he ran into the street and was hit by a vehicle.
The driver initially left the scene but returned a few minutes later. Police said they noticed signs of impairment when they spoke with the driver.
The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Just before 1:30 a.m., while this crash was still being investigated, a vehicle reportedly failed to stop for the barricades that blocked off the roadway.
The vehicle continued driving until it struck another vehicle at Cactus Road. That vehicle reportedly caught fire because of the crash.
The driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the driver was impaired when these later crashes took place.
