PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's office has identified the body found on Camelback Mountain on September 8.

The individual was identified as 63-year-old missing person Harald Schindler-Chudzinsky, who was visiting Phoenix from Mexico City.

Phoenix Fire crews were initially called to the Echo Canyon Trail on Monday afternoon for a hiker in need of a mountain rescue. The incident was updated to a "body recovery" after it was learned that the person was dead.

Navigating a remote area with steep terrain, police recovered Schindler-Chudzinsky's body one day after the search began.

Schindler-Chudzinsky was found off the trail, but it's not yet clear how long he was there.

A missing person report filed on September 2 from outside of Phoenix led to crews searching the trail, according to police.

Officials said there is no reason to believe foul play was involved.
