TEMPE, AZ — A man is in custody after police say he broke into a vacant home in Tempe in the University Heights area on Friday night.

Officers were called around 8 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing people enter a fenced and boarded-up house.

Police say one man refused to come out, leading officers to use chemical munitions to get him to surrender. He was later found hiding inside and arrested on burglary charges.

No injuries were reported.
