Health Department officials said that zip code data may include instances in which a hospital has reported their own zip code in place of a COVID-19 patient’s zip code.

This is done when a hospital has not yet determined the patient’s zip code, or if they do not have one, as is the case in many tribal communities. This will cause zip codes that contain hospitals to sometimes over-report COVID-19 cases.
