Gilbert police confirmed via tweet that a homicide suspect that barricaded himself in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Tempe has been hospitalized after reports of a shooting inside the vehicle.
According to Gilbert police, the suspect was located by Gilbert detectives in Tempe and locked himself in a vehicle when officers approached.
Police say after gas was deployed inside the vehicle, officers heard a single gunshot. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. His condition is not known at this time.
Gilbert police say they believe the suspect is the same suspect wanted for a homicide that happened Friday around 7:30 p.m. near Cooper and Guadalupe roads.
