TEMPE — Gilbert police say a homicide suspect that barricaded himself in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in Tempe has died after reports of a shooting inside the vehicle.
According to Gilbert police, Alfredo Armando Prieto Jr., 26, was located by Gilbert detectives in Tempe and locked himself in a vehicle when officers approached.
Police say after gas was deployed inside the vehicle, officers heard a single gunshot. Prieto was taken to the hospital for treatment where he later died.
Gilbert police say they believe Prieto is the same suspect wanted for a homicide that happened Friday around 7:30 p.m. near Cooper and Guadalupe roads.
