PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department says its officers were involved in a shooting that left one woman injured overnight.
The incident occurred near 40th Street and Indian School Road around 1 a.m. Monday.
Phoenix police say a passerby saw a woman in the roadway holding a knife. The passerby attempted to ask the woman if she needed assistance, and the woman reportedly ran toward him and swung the knife at him, police say.
When officers arrived, they found the woman in the area still armed with a knife. She started walking toward another person outside of a building despite officers’ commands, and officers used less-lethal tools to try to stop her.
When she did not respond to the less-lethal tools, officers then shot at the woman, injuring her.
According to police, a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured.
Anyone with information or video from the area is asked to reach out to police.
