HOLBROOK, AZ — Multiple agencies responded to an investigation off Highway 180 outside the Holbrook city limits.
Deputies with the Department of Public Safety say a sergeant was in pursuit of a vehicle along Interstate 40 around 10 a.m.
Officials say the driver continued along I-40 until the vehicle "left the roadway and entered the desert east of Holbrook."
According to DPS, the alleged suspect engaged in gunfire with law enforcement.
Just after 1:45 p.m., the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.
No officers or deputies were injured in the incident.
It is unclear if deputies used their guns to strike the suspect.
Holbrook police said the scene was secure in a Facebook post. However, law enforcement remained in the area for a large majority of the time.
Navajo County Sheriff’s and DPS deputies assisted in the investigation.
An investigation remains ongoing.
