PHOENIX — It has been a hot Labor Day weekend and that is not expected to change for our Monday.

Phoenix will top out near 108 degrees or Labor Day, putting us a few degrees above normal

Air quality will also remain an issue, especially ozone in the afternoon hours. The Ozone High Pollution Advisory has been extended through Tuesday for the Valley.

Breathing in ozone pollution can lead to health impacts like chest pain, coughing, throat irritation, congestion, and difficulty breathing. Kids, older adults, and anyone with any kind of respiratory condition like asthma, bronchitis, or COPD can be especially susceptible to the impacts of ozone pollution. So, limit your time outside in the afternoon when ozone pollution is peaking.

Everyone can help prevent the pollution problem from getting worse by carpooling, taking public transportation, or working from home. Also, wait until after dark to fill up your gas-powered vehicles and avoid idling in long drive-thru lines.

Monsoon moisture will begin to move back in this week, and we are closely monitoring tropical moisture that could help aid this.

We could still see a few isolated showers and thunderstorms along the Mogollon Rim and across southeastern Arizona through Tuesday, with a 10 to 20 percent chance in the Valley Monday and Tuesday

By midweek, more monsoon moisture will flow in, bringing increasing chances for storms in the Valley for the second half of the week.
