PHOENIX — After a scorching weekend, temperatures are expected to climb even higher Monday before easing midweek as monsoon storm chances increase across Arizona.
An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures forecast to reach between 112 and 117 degrees in the Phoenix metro area.
Due to the extreme heat and increased risk of heat-related illnesses, now through Tuesday will be ABC15 Weather Action Days.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the afternoon heat, and wear lightweight, breathable clothing. If you must be outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade, reapply sunscreen, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Bring pets indoors during peak heat hours.
A strong ridge of high pressure will keep temperatures elevated through Tuesday. By midweek, that ridge will shift toward the Four Corners region, allowing monsoon moisture to flow into Arizona.
Storm chances will begin Monday in eastern Arizona, gradually moving westward. On Tuesday, outflow boundaries from Rim Country storms may affect the Valley. By Wednesday, scattered monsoon storms are expected in the Phoenix area, continuing into Thursday and Friday.
These storms could bring locally heavy rain, flash flooding—especially near burn scars—blowing dust, and possible dust storms.
If you’re caught in a dust storm while driving, pull off the road, turn off your lights and hazard lights, place your car in park, and keep your foot off the brake until visibility improves.
In case of flooding, remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roads—it’s not worth risking your life or the lives of emergency responders.
Monsoon activity is expected to peak on Wednesday and Thursday, before decreasing in chances by the Fourth of July.
Stay tuned to ABC15 for the latest updates.
