GILBERT, AZ — Arizona Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a deadly crash along Loop 202 Santan in Gilbert.
The multi-vehicle crash occurred near Lindsay Road around 11 p.m. Sunday.
According to officials, a driver headed eastbound on Loop 202 was involved in a rollover crash. The driver, identified as a man, exited his vehicle after the crash and entered the westbound lanes, where he was struck by a white van.
Multiple other vehicles also reportedly struck the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials with the Department of Public Safety initially identified the driver killed as a man from Mesa, but later clarified that the driver killed was 40-year-old Adan Juan Martinez of Tucson.
DPS says both directions of the freeway were shut down for several hours due to the crash, but reopened around 5:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
