The City of Phoenix has announced a deal that will keep the Milwaukee Brewers at Maryvale Baseball Park for the next 25 years.
The Brewers have played their spring training games in the Phoenix neighborhood since 1998. However, rumors began to fly in 2013 that the team could possibly move.
In fact, they even explored the idea of building a stadium in Gilbert.
This new deal requires the Brewers to spend between $41- and 63-million on renovations to the stadium. In turn, Phoenix will chip in $10-million over a span of five years.
Improvements to the park will add more shade for fans, revamped restrooms, a new clubhouse for the team and a new practice field that mimics the Brewers’ home field.
At the end of the deal, the Brewers have the option to buy the stadium. The deal is set to be voted at city council meeting on Nov. 15.
