A Laveen neighborhood will be getting some much-needed flood relief thanks to a recent approval for a storm drain project.

The project will help those in the area of 27th and Olney avenues, which has seen time and time again the impact of heavy rain and standing water.

Officials say more than 43 residential and commercial structures have suffered damage from flooding.

The planned storm drain system includes a pipe along Olney Avenue just west of 24th Drive, then north along 27th Avenue to the 27th Avenue and South Mountain Regional Detention Basin. New stormwater basins and connections to existing subdivision retention basins will also be constructed.
