Kara Dunn, a University of Arizona student from Tempe, was traveling in Spain with a friend when she suddenly began experiencing a host of neurological symptoms.

The 20-year-old ended up stranded overseas after being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. Doctors in Spain diagnosed her with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the nervous system.

Friends and family say Kara is recovering in Spain, but now, her family is trying to bring her back to the U.S. on a special medical flight so she can recover here.

The problem is the cost is very high. The family is trying to raise $50,000 for the flight and other expenses.

"It's definitely been hard," explained Nik Dave, a close friend of Kara's. "Definitely been stressful. For me, I've just been trying to figure out how I can help in any way possible."
