MESA, AZ — A man armed with a gun is in the hospital after being shot by Mesa police officers.
Just after 5 p.m. Friday, Mesa police officers responded to an apartment complex near Mesa Drive and Broadway Road for reports of a man armed with a gun.
Officials say multiple people saw the man in the area banging on doors and had a gun on him.

When officers got to the scene, they located the man who was still armed with a gun.
Two officers commanded the man to comply but he refused, according to Mesa police officials.
At this time, one of the officers fired their weapon, striking the man.
He was taken to a hospital in stable condition. His name has not been released.
Nobody else was injured during the incident.
It's unclear if the man pointed his weapon or lunged at the officers, prompting them to fire their weapon.
The Gilbert Police Department is continuing the investigation into the incident.
No other information has been provided.
