PHOENIX — A Valley family is looking for answers after their loved one was killed by a hit-and-run driver last week.

Steven J. Hoffman, 37, was hit and killed by a driver who drove onto the sidewalk and fled the scene, Phoenix police say.

The crash occurred near 23rd Avenue and Dunlap around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Hoffman, was reportedly walking east on the south sidewalk in the area when a Ford Expedition headed east drifted onto the sidewalk, hitting him.

Police say the driver of the Expedition failed to stop and continued east before turning south on 19th Avenue.

“How a person could sleep at night? How they can eat or even get back in that car or truck and not think about what they did, it angers me that they won’t come forward because they’re afraid of what’s going to happen to them,” said Hoffman’s sister Rachel Price.

Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“My brother is gone forever because of this person,” said Price. “He wanted so bad to be in love and have children,” said Hoffman’s niece, Maddison Price.
