PHOENIX — At Valley Youth Theatre, kids are tackling the topic of foster care and adoption.

They're performing in the musical called, "They Chose Me!" all month long.

It's a musical that showcases finding a parent, through the eyes of a child.

Three of the performers have been adopted, like 15-year-old Shaylee Flanagan.

"I was adopted right when I was born, straight out of the hospital," Flanagan said. "They never had a specific time that they wanted to tell me. They kind of told me always growing up, oh your birth mom, your birth dad. So it was always very clear with me. I never like, struggled with it at all."

Bobb Cooper, producing artistic director at Valley Youth Theatre, was also in the foster care system. He says a production like this one is more than just a show.

"I thought, who can we sell this to?" Cooper said. "Then I had an epiphany one day. There's a whole community out there that this can really impact."

The show runs until Oct. 27. For more information about tickets, click here.
