PHOENIX — Former Senator Jeff Flake tweeted out a photo of a check made out to the Sheriff Paul Penzone re-election campaign Wednesday. The move comes several days after former Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced his intention to run in the 2020 campaign against Penzone.
The tweet also included a link to an article about Arpaio announcing his intention to run again in 2020.

The $100 check reads “County over party” in the memo line, a move that states Flake, a republican, is choosing to support Penzone, a democrat, over Arpaio.
The current Sheriff, Paul Penzone, defeated Arpaio as the democratic opposition in the 2016 election.
In August, former Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced his plans to run for Maricopa County Sheriff in 2020, a position that he held until voters chose Paul Penzone to replace him.
