YUMA, AZ — A former member of the Arizona House of Representatives has been hospitalized in intensive care, according to current state lawmakers.

Senate President Karen Fann and House Speaker Rusty Bowers say former state Rep. Don Shooter is in the ICU but did not immediately have further details.

Shooter, the former chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, was expelled on February 1, 2018 after an investigation found he engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment toward women.

The investigation was launched after state Rep. Michelle Ugenti-Rita, a fellow Republican, accused Shooter of propositioning her for sex and repeatedly commenting on her breasts.

His expulsion is believed to be the first state lawmaker in the U.S. to be voted out of his seat since the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct began in 2017.
