PHOENIX — A man is in custody after police say he called 911 to report that he killed his girlfriend early Friday morning near downtown Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded around 3:40 a.m. Friday to a home near 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road after the caller said he had killed his girlfriend.

When officers arrived, they found 47-year-old Jeffrey Rael at the scene and took him into custody without incident.

Inside the home, officers say they found 31-year-old Paxton Wallace with stab wounds.

Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Rael was taken to a hospital as a precaution before being booked into the Maricopa County Jail on first-degree murder charges.

Police haven’t said what led up to the violence.
