According to the latest Bankrate Money Pulse survey, 36 million homeowners in the U.S. are planning to renovate their homes in the next 12 months.
"It's a sure sign that they're generally feeling more secure about the economy and in the housing market as well," said Mike Cetera, Bankrate.com's personal loans and credit analyst. "It's refreshing to see, especially since it wasn't too long ago that the housing market crashed."
Interestingly, the millennial generation is the group with the lowest number of people owning houses, but have the most homeowners planning to make improvements.
The top five improvement areas:
1. home exterior or yard renovations
2. new flooring
3. windows, roofing or siding
4. kitchen
5. bathroom
