PHOENIX — "I do love teaching," explains Summer Palacios. "It's about making a difference."

She brings that same passion and enthusiasm to her fourth grade class at the Madrid Neighborhood School in Phoenix.

But that's not all she does - not by a long shot!

She's a coach and even pays for shoes if the kids can't afford them and even attends games or competitions when mom and dad can't.

"It's about spending time with them and letting them know someone cares about them."

She even finds free time to volunteer at an orphanage in Nogales, Mexico.

"Growing up in foster care myself, I sort of know what it's like without parents."

For Palacios, all the work she does has a very simple, yet effective, payoff.

"Their smiles are worth a million dollars!"

And Summer Palacios - that is why you are one of Nick's Heroes.

All around us in the Valley, people go above and beyond to help make our community even better. We want to know who they are! Nominate someone today and tell us why they should be one ofNick's Heroes. They could win a $500 gift card from our friends at Valley Toyota Dealers.
