FORECAST: Extreme heat all week

Dangerous heat continues to scorch Arizona all week. We'll see a chance of isolated storms in the Valley late Sunday night into Monday morning , bringing a chance for blowing dust, strong winds, lightning and pockets of heavy rainfall. We're also tracking an Extreme Heat Warning across much of central, southern and western Arizona through next Saturday as temperatures continue to top 110 degrees each day.

PHOENIX — Dangerous heat scorches Arizona all week.

We'll see a chance of lingering morning showers before drying out around midday. Highs should stay just under 110 degrees, still above average for late August.

Extreme Heat Warnings stay in effect across much of central, southern and western Arizona through Saturday, with temperatures at or above 110 degrees each day.

We remain in ABC15 Weather Action Mode. Take action to protect yourself, your family and your pets from the dangerous heat.

Stay hydrated. Limit your time outside between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Bring your pets indoors. If you have to be out there, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

An Ozone High Pollution Advisory is in effect through this evening. An Ozone High Pollution Watch is posted for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and it could be upgraded to an advisory.

Ozone pollution can trigger asthma attacks, aggravate bronchitis and other lung diseases, and weaken the body's ability to fight infection. If you have asthma, COPD or any respiratory condition, stay inside during the afternoon when pollution peaks.

Kids, older adults and anyone exercising outside may feel the effects, too. Watch for itchy eyes, nose and throat, along with wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain.

We can all keep the problem from getting worse. Carpool, take public transportation or work from home if you can. Refuel your gas-powered vehicles after dark and avoid idling in long drive-thru lines.
