Harvey's rainfall sets all-time record

The National Weather Service announced on Tuesday that the rain gauge in Cedar Bayou, Texas set a new record for a single storm with 51.88 inches of rain from Hurricane Harvey. 

The 51.88-inch mark notches a record in the continental United States. Other parts of the Houston area have recorded roughly 40 inches of rain since late last week. 

The previous record was 48 inches.

Cedar Bayou is located roughly 25 miles east of Houston.

According to the National Weather Service, another 2-3 inches of rain is expected to fall by tomorrow night in Cedar Bayou.
