One dead, eight hospitalized in rollover crash near SR-24 and Signal Butte Road in Mesa

MESA, AZ — Mesa police responded to a two-vehicle crash near State Route 24 and Signal Butte Road, where one vehicle rolled over Sunday morning.

Police say one of the vehicles involved was a large passenger van carrying 10 adults.

Police say 51-year-old Evon Zubah died in the crash.

Seven others from the van were hospitalized with minor injuries, as well as the driver of the other vehicle.

Police say the crash occurred when the sedan ran a red light and collided with the passenger van

The roadway was closed for several hours for the investigation.

On Tuesday morning, the intersection of SR 24 and Signal Butte Road was the scene of another crash involving three vehicles.

Video from the scene showed extensive damage to the vehicles involved.

Mesa police said one person was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle, but everyone is expected to recover, according to preliminary information.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
