PHOENIX — A driver has been arrested, charged with manslaughter after a deadly crash at 51st Avenue and Union Hills Drive on Saturday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Phoenix police confirmed that Matthew Schwartz who was driving a 2012 Chevy Cruze was traveling southbound on 51st Avenue and crashed into a 2015 Ford Focus hatchback.
The driver of the Ford Focus was identified by police as 22-year-old Anthony Naccarelli. His vehicle was hit from behind by Schwartz in the Chevy Cruze, police said.
According to the press release from the Phoenix Police Department, "the force of the collision pushed [Naccarelli] into the traffic light pole on the southwest corner of the intersection."
Naccarelli was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to court documents, Schwartz admitted to using heroin at a friend's house prior to attempting to drive home. Police also allegedly found several different prescription medications in Schwartz's vehicle, some of which cause drowsiness.
Schwartz has been arrested by Phoenix police and charged with manslaughter, a Class 2 felony.
