Regardless of what his future holds, Arizona State Sun Devils freshman Spencer Torkelson can forever say he bested Major League Baseball's home run king in at least one category.
On Thursday night, the infielder and Petaluma, California native hit his 12th home run of the season, breaking Barry Bonds' school record for most home runs by a freshman Sun Devil. He did so in an 8-7 loss at Washington State.
Bonds played for ASU from 1983-85 before going on to break Hank Aaron's career MLB home run record.
Torkelson needed just 25 games to break Bonds' record.
