This will be the Wildcats' fifth bowl appearance in six seasons under head coach Rich Rodriguez. Arizona defeated Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl in its most recent bowl appearance two years ago. The Wildcats are 3-1 in bowl games under Rodriguez, with their only loss coming to Boise State in the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.
The Wildcats finished the 2017 season with a 7-5 overall record and 5-4 record in the Pac-12, but they ended the season with three losses in their final four games, including a 42-30 loss to ASU in the Territorial Cup game in Tempe.
Purdue finished the regular season with a 6-6 overall record and 4-5 mark in the Big Ten.
