The National Football League is known for being a results-oriented sport. But, sometimes, the mantra of "what have you done for me lately" is not enough.

Cardinals quarterback Matt Barkley, who played the entirety of the team's victory over the Denver Broncos in the preseason finale on Thursday, was among the players cut as the team reduced its roster to the mandated 53-player maximum.

Other players cut included running back Kerwynn Williams and receivers Brittan Golden and Jaxon Shipley.

The Cardinals open the regular season on Sept. 11 when they host the New England Patriots at University of Phoenix Stadium.
