Want beautiful skin like Kerry Washington’s? An all-year-round glow like Reese Witherspoon‘s? It’s not just down to professional makeup artists or good lighting.

Apparently, their secret is a daily green smoothie – and Witherspoon swears by it so much, she has had one every day for the past nine years. Oh, and it was Washington who told her about it in the first place.

In an Instagram video, Witherspoon revealed that she and Washington (who both star in the new TV series “Little Fires Everywhere,” based on Celeste Ng’s best-selling novel) were sitting next to each other at an awards show years ago when they didn’t know each other well. Witherspoon remarked on Washington’s beautiful skin and asked her what her secret was. Washington told her about the smoothie recipe, saying it had worked wonders for her hair and nails.

And Witherspoon has decided to share it with the world:

Witherspoon notes that the recipe is actually inspired by celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie.

If you fancy trying it, here are the ingredients for the blender, as noted in the video:

2 heads romaine lettuce
1/2 cup spinach
1/2 cup coconut water
1 whole banana
1 whole apple
1 whole pear
1 whole lemon
Celery (optional)
Almond butter (optional)

Yes, that’s a lot of lettuce, and it might not look like the most appetizing way to start the day, but Witherspoon swears it “tastes so good!” She says she drinks the smoothie around 10 or 11 a.m. on an empty stomach, and doesn’t get hungry again until around 1 p.m.

Witherspoon’s recipe makes two portions, so you can treat someone else in your household to the power of greens, or pop it in the fridge and enjoy it the next day. Oh, and don’t forget the extra special ingredient — an impromptu dance.

The video got mostly positive reactions from Witherspoon’s followers, with a few naysayers mixed in. “That sounds honestly awful,” wrote one. But another said, “Can’t wait to make this!”

One person was particularly pleased to watch the video — Kimberly Snyder herself.

“Yay! This makes me so happy you are still drinking it after all these years!” she wrote in the comments.

If it gives us skin like Witherspoon’s and Washington’s, though, we’re game. How about you?
