PHOENIX — Two men were taken to the hospital after a stabbing in Phoenix Saturday night.

Phoenix police say a suspect, identified at 43-year-old Artur Mavashev, was involved in an altercation with a 26-year-old man near 19th and Glendale avenues around 7:30 p.m.

For unknown reasons, Mavashev allegedly stabbed the 26-year-old, who is now in the hospital in critical condition, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

According to Phoenix police, a second person, only identified as a 25-year-old man, attempted to intervene and was also allegedly stabbed by Mavashev. Police say the 25-year-old's injuries were non-life-threatening.

Sergeant Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said Mavashev fled on foot along 19th Avenue, but was eventually taken into custody by responding officers.

Mavashev was booked into Maricopa County's 4th Avenue Jail and charged with aggravated assault, Phoenix police say.
