PHOENIX — Lovecraft offers a little bit of everything. It is an ale house. A wine bar. A craft beer bar. And a unique neighborhood hangout with a New Mexican-inspired menu.

"We opened a little more than a year ago, December 2018," said Rebecca Golden, the owner of Lovecraft. "We're located on the northwest corner of 32nd Street and Cactus. So, essentially the (State Route) 51 and Cactus Road."

She has over 130 craft beers on tap or in bottles, more than 30 different wines, plus cider. Of course with drinks on the menu, there has to be food, too.

"I’m from New Mexico so this New Mexican food is fantastic. It’s super flavorful, it's slow-cooked. We have everything from our enchiladas, of course, to Carne Adovada," she said. "On the weekends, we've been trying to do specials to bring in people, such as prime rib with a little bit of New Mexican seasoning."

It's no secret that sales are down. She said her sales are down at least fifty percent.

"I try not to look at the numbers because, yeah, we went from our best month ever in February to our worst month ever in March. It was worse than the month we opened up, a year and a half ago," she said.

Though, despite everything going on with the COVID-19 pandemic, the community's support of her business has been overwhelming.

"Everytime someone comes in and says thank you to me, I’m like no, its not me, thank you to you," she said. "It’s hard for people to eat out right now and people don’t have to (to support a restaurant). There are so many different ways to show support. They may not be able to come in (and eat), but they post about us or leave reviews."
