Officials say an officer shot at one of two teenage burglary suspects in Phoenix Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers were sent to a home near 91st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road after receiving reports of a "burglary in progress," a Phoenix police spokesman said.

When officers arrived at the scene they were confronted by one of two suspects. The suspect was armed and an officer shot toward the suspect who then immediately surrendered, officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, the officer allegedly shot at the suspect when he found him hiding in a yard with a possible weapon.

The second burglary suspect fled the scene, but was located near 50th Avenue and Van Buren Street after being involved in a car crash, authorities said.

He was taken into custody without incident and no officers were injured.

Authorities say the suspects are 15 and 17 years old. Officers allegedly located weapons inside the car involved in the accident.

Traffic restrictions are in place from 35th Avenue to 51st Avenue on Van Buren Street. Drivers are urged to avoid the area at this time.

No additional information was immediately available.
