NOGALES, AZ. — U.S. Border Patrol agents along with Mexican Federal Police discovered an incomplete underground tunnel running under the streets of Nogales on Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the Tucson Sector of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
According to the press release, the tunnel was found during a "routine, bi-national tunnel sweep of the stormwater drainage system that serves both sides of the border."
CBP says the entrance of the tunnel was hidden in the floor of an existing drainage system "with a pile of dirt and capped with a Styrofoam and concrete mixture. "
CBP says this is the 124th tunnel discovered in the Tucson Sector since 1990.
