TOLLESON — A man crossing the street at 83rd Avenue and Buckeye Road in Tolleson was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday morning.

According to Tolleson police, two pedestrians, a man and woman, were walking on the north side of Buckeye road, crossing the street from east to west 83rd Avenue around 7 a.m.

As they were crossing the street, a red Fiat driving northbound on 83rd Avenue crossed through the intersection and struck the man, whose identity was not immediately available.

Tolleson police say the man, who was in his early 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. It does not appear the woman was struck.

The driver, who is in her mid 50s, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police say.

It is not clear if the pedestrians had the "walk" signal at the crosswalk, nor is it known if the driver of the Fiat was impaired at the time of the crash.

Police will continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Stay with ABC15 for updates.
