A helmet and protective gear likely saved a motorcyclist's life during a crash with wrong-way vehicle on the Loop 303 on Sunday.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, dispatchers received calls around 7 p.m. about a passenger car headed northbound in the southbound lanes of L-303 near Bethany Home Road.
Less than a minute later, DPS says they heard that the car had collided with a woman on a motorcycle.
Fortunately, the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She had been wearing a helmet and motorcycle jacket at the time of the crash.
The wrong-way driver, a man in his twenties, suffered minor cuts. DPS says the man suffered a "physiological episode" that caused disorientation.
DPS says the driver will receive a civil citation for the wrong-way crash.
