A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of 19-year-old Alexis Rumer last month.

Surprise police say the man, identified as Roger Couillard, sped away from an officer who tried to conduct a traffic stop based on a report of an intoxicated driver.

Couillard, who authorities say was behind the wheel, crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of N. Reems Road and W. Waddell Road just before midnight o September 12.

The crash killed Rumer, who was driving the vehicle, and seriously injured a 22-year-old passenger.

Couillard faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

A judge set his bond at $250,000 and he remained in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office as of Monday afternoon, according to online jail records.
