Students and staff at a Surprise high school were evacuated after a threatening letter was found on campus.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office was called to Paradise Honors High School near Cactus Road and 175th Avenue Thursday afternoon.

An MCSO spokesperson says the evacuation was a precaution and they take "these types of threats very seriously."

The campus was found to be safe shortly after the evacuation and students were returned to their classrooms.

MCSO says parents and guardians are OK to pick up their children from their usual locations Thursday afternoon.

No injuries were reported and no additional details were immediately available.
