A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash in Surprise.
Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies say Brian Ferguson was speeding down Del Webb Boulevard when he struck a vehicle turning westbound onto Thunderbird Road.
Ferguson and the driver of the other car, Joyce Irons, were both transported to the hospital in critical condition. Irons later died from her injuries.
Detectives say Ferguson's preliminary blood alcohol level was 0.241. Additional blood samples confirmed Ferguson was over the legal limit when the crash occurred.
Deputies say Ferguson admitted to drinking prior to the accident. Authorities also found open containers of alcohol in the suspect's vehicle.
Ferguson was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on one count of manslaughter, a Class 2 felony.
