Two Peoria elementary schools were on lockdown while police searched for an armed robber in the area Thursday.

Reports came in around 2 p.m. after Vistancia Elementary and Lake Pleasant Elementary were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Neither of the schools is the scene of the robbery, police said.

The suspect is described as being a black man with a shaved head and a light-colored beard, officials said. He is believed to be in his mid-20s, 5’5”, and possibly wearing a dark blue hoodie and blue jeans.

A spokesperson for the Peoria Unified School District said they've been continuously updating parents through these website updates.

The lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m. but police have not said if a suspect was caught.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Peoria Police Department.
