LAKE PLEASANT, AZ — Officials have identified a 20-year-old man who died after being pulled from Lake Pleasant Monday afternoon.

Rescue crews were called to the scene around 4 p.m.

MCSO deputies say Ovidio Ramirez Gomez was swimming with family and friends near the shoreline of the Operations Cove near Scorpion Bay Marina when he decided to swim further out into the cove. Gomez reportedly became distressed and went under the water.

Lake Patrol detectives arrived by boat, and one was able to pull Gomez from the water. Deputies on shore began performing CPR until Peoria Fire Department units arrived. MCSO said Gomez was pronounced deceased on scene despite continued life-saving efforts from emergency crews.

Evidence gathered so far does not indicate any foul play, nor that alcohol or drugs were a factor.

MCSO said the investigation remains open at this time.
