The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy who shot and killed a knife-wielding man in Goodyear last week.

MCSO identified the deputy as Jason Blair, of District 22 Patrol, in a news release.

Blair, who joined MCSO in 2004, shot and killed 42-year-old Pedro Rubio on Thursday, July 13.

MCSO said Rubio rear-ended the deputy's marked vehicle in a shopping complex near Dysart and McDowell roads.

When Blair got out to check on the man, Rubio allegedly had a knife and walked towards the deputy and ignored his commands. Rubio was shot and died at the hospital.

The deputy did not turn on his body camera, MCSO said.

Blair has been placed on paid administrative leave while MCSO's Professional Standard Bureau reviews the case, a standard practice in deputy-involved shootings.
