Two police officers were injured after responding to a Goodyear neighborhood Monday afternoon for reports of multiple home burglaries in the area.
Officials say a suspect and two officers were injured in the incident, with all three being taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police believe there are more suspects that fled the area, but nobody else was located as of Monday night.
The incident occurred near Estrella Parkway and McDowell Road.
One officer was bit by a police K-9, and the other injured their head during the pursuit on a gate. Both injuries were non-life threatening. The suspect and one of the officers were released from the hospital Monday night. The suspect was then arrested.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Robert Gastelum of Phoenix, is facing aggravated assault, burglary, resisting arrest, and criminal trespassing charges.
ABC15 spoke to one of the burglary victims.
Christa Gilbert said her home was broken into just minutes after she left to take her four and seven-year-old daughters to dance class.
"It was just horrifying to pull up and have about ten cop cars outside your house, guns drawn and pointed at the front door," explained Gilbert.
Gilbert says the thieves broke into her home through a side door that leads into the garage, knocking it down with such force, a next-door neighbor heard it and immediately called the police.
Once inside, Gilbert saw the thieves had turned her bedroom and her daughters' rooms upside down, emptying drawers and making off with whatever they could.
"My daughters' room probably bothered me the most because they're four and seven and their piggy banks were shattered and broken on the ground," said Gilbert.
Gilbert says the thieves attempted to make off with her kids' tooth fairy money and even searched through their underwear drawers, adding an even more chilling and twisted element to an already traumatic experience.
Goodyear police are currently looking for 3 to 4 more possible suspects. Police say they are looking for a woman in her early 30s, and two men in their late teens to early 20's.
